Ultra Clean Ventilation

“Ultra-clean air is defined as that containing not more than 10 CFU/m3 “

Exponential Flow

Howorth’s exponential flow system offers superior levels of patient protection through its unique engineered air profile. Put simply, clean air enters the theatre from above, moving faster in the central area and slower towards the edge.

The effect of this exponential profile of air is to form a trumpet shaped flow which crosses the patient, moves towards the surgeon and then back up to the ceiling vents to be captured, filtered and re-circulated.

The Howorth Exflow system ensures that the surgical team is always downwind of the patient allowing complete freedom of movement around the operating table without the need for restrictive side walls or the fear of contaminated air entering the clean air zone.

The Exflow’s ability to exclude entrainment of external airborne particulate has made it particularly suitable for so-called ‘barn theatres’, within whose totally open space multiple operations can be carried out simultaneously under adjacent Exflows.

The types of surgery performed under Ultra Clean Ventilation Systems are:

  • Orthopaedics
  • Opthalmology
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Transplant Surgery
  • Endoscopy
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Various Day Surgeries
  • Any invasive “Clean” Surgery
