Supporting the Community – Howorth & Bolton Kids2gether
11 April 2011
These are difficult times for charities, so it’s more important than ever for companies to give support where they can. As a company which has been based in Lancashire ever since its inception over 150 years ago, the Howorth team was keen to become involved with a local charity, and Bolton Kidz2Gether was perfect. The Howorth directors recently took a table at the charity’s Gala Night, and the company has sponsored new uniforms for the Kidz2Gether staff.
The charity, led by Jacqueline and Stephanie, offers support to children and young people who have autistic spectrum disorders. The term “autistic” is loaded with negative images, but it can mean something as common as having problems with social interaction. In fact, some research suggests that autism is actually an extreme form of the male brain – lots of the traits which are so often associated with male behaviour (difficulty in reading people’s expressions, problems with understanding the appropriate behaviour in a certain social situations, struggling to convey emotions) are also typical of children on the autistic spectrum.
Howorth has been proud to be involved with a charity run with such dedication, which has made a real difference to the lives of the children it helps, and their families, and looks forward to being involved with Kidz2Gether on an on-going basis.
