Howorth Launches 4D Shield

2 March 2009

Mar 2009, Howorth Air Technology will officially launch its unique 4D Shield (HCS).  The launch will take place at Interphex 2009, the world’s leading pharmaceutical tradeshow.

The Howorth 4D Shield was developed in response to customer feedback on their existing range of High Containment Screens and, as a result, the new 4D Shield is the most flexible screen yet, offering four degrees of movement:

• Side to side

• Front to back

• Up and down

• Controlled rotation

Howorth’s 4D Shield is part of a larger range of screens compiling 2D, 3D and 4DM. It is an effective way of boosting the containment capabilities of any Downflow Booth offering previously unattainable levels of operator protection.

It forms an actual barrier between the operator and the dust source, keeping all dust laden air close to the exhaust grilles of the booth. This means, for operations where an air suit or isolator were previously the only option, a Downflow Booth combined with a Howorth Shield is now a viable solution.  It can be fitted into any booth, be it a Howorth booth or a competitor’s, new or already installed.

Independent testing of Howorth’s 4D Shield has confirmed that OELs as low as 1.0 μg/m3 can be achieved. Furthermore, the Howorth Shield is an ATEX compliant component suitable for installation in any Zone 1/21 IIGD T4 IP65.

The 4D Shield is available for demonstration and testing in Howorth’s research facility at their UK headquarters and is on sale now. For more information go to or call Sales on +44 (0) 1204 571131.
