Pharma Commissioning Engineer

The role is responsible for testing, commissioning, fault-finding, and rectification of equipment to ensure that systems meet project, customer, GMP and quality requirements. The Engineer will complete commissioning documentation accurately and within agreed timescales and provide professional technical support to customers throughout the commissioning process.
The role will also contribute to continuous improvement within the commissioning function and support less experienced engineers through the sharing of technical knowledge and experience.
Job requirements
- Level 3 NVQ in Electrical (or equivalent) – essential.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) – preferable but can be obtained once in post.
- IPAF certification – preferable but can be obtained once in post.
- HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline – desirable.
- Strong foundation in electrical fault finding, with good problem-solving capability.
- Experience of commissioning and validating mechanical, electrical and/or control systems.
- Working knowledge of control systems.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings, specifications and commissioning requirements.
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload while knowing when to seek support or escalate issues.
- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites around the world, as well as work within the factory at Howorth headquarters.
- Strong team-working values, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across all departments.
- Previous experience in commissioning, ideally within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, cleanroom or other regulated environment.
- Experience of working directly with customers and other project stakeholders.
Job responsibilities
- Commissioning, Testing & Fault Finding
- Carry out commissioning and validation of Pharma equipment in the field and at Howorth headquarters, including Factory Acceptance Testing (F.A.T).
- Independently undertake commissioning activities in accordance with project requirements, customer specifications, GMP standards and Howorth procedures.
- Carry out testing, fault finding and rectification of equipment and components, escalating complex technical issues where appropriate.
- Demonstrate the operation and functionality of equipment to customers with a confident and professional attitude.
- Support the successful completion of commissioning and validation activities against project programmes and customer expectations.
- Documentation
- Complete commissioning, validation and associated documentation accurately, professionally and within agreed timescales.
- Customer & Technical Support
- Provide technical support to customers and colleagues relating to commissioning activities and Pharma equipment.
- Identify potential opportunities for post-commissioning services and communicate these through the appropriate sales channels.
- Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Production, Design, Quality and other relevant departments to achieve successful project delivery.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of commissioning procedures, processes and working practices.
- Support the creation of a culture of continuous improvement and consistent high performance within the department.
- Share knowledge and experience with Trainee Commissioning Engineers and other colleagues where appropriate.
- Health & Safety
- Ensure all commissioning activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant Health & Safety requirements and company procedures.
