Commercial Accountant

We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy within our Finance team.

Working Location: Head Office | Full-time

The Commercial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and insight-driven financial information to support effective decision-making across the organisation.

They will have duties and responsibilities for Howorth Air Tech’s UK entity as well as central ownership of our US entity, including full responsibility for financial reporting, balance sheet integrity, and coordination of US tax and compliance requirements. This ensures consistent, controlled, and aligned reporting across the Group.

In addition, the role will:

  • Drive cost visibility and cost optimisation initiatives, identifying and delivering measurable savings
  • Act as a business partner to operational stakeholders, supporting improved commercial performance
  • Support ERP implementation and finance transformation, ensuring processes and reporting are efficient, scalable, and aligned to best practice

Key Responsibilities

  • As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:

    • Take ownership of monthly management accounting processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting across the business
    • Act as the central accountant for HAT Inc (US entity)
    • Provide meaningful financial insights and analysis to support decision-making,
    • Act as a key business partner to operational and commercial stakeholders, building strong relationships and driving accountability for financial performance.
    • Lead cost centre and performance review processes, challenging assumptions and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency
    • Proactively identify and deliver cost optimisation initiatives
    • Support the preparation and delivery of budgets and forecasts, ensuring outputs are robust, aligned to business objectives, and continuously improved
    • Maintain a strong financial control environment
    • Support statutory compliance and audit processes, including preparation of supporting documentation and engagement with auditors where required
    • Contribute to and support ERP implementation and finance transformation initiatives
    • Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, identifying opportunities to:
    • Support the wider Finance function with ad hoc analysis, reporting, and project work, reflecting the evolving needs of the business.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • PQ Strategic level CIMA (or similar) minimum requirement.
  • Solid accounting knowledge
  • Engineering/projects environment background
  • Proficient MS365 user including Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Co-pilot
  • Skilled with data manipulation and reporting
  • Systems Implementation experience
  • Sage System experience
  • Experience working with entities outside of the UK is desirable but not essential
  • Holds the characteristics, behaviours and mindset of someone who can efficiently act as a business partner to key stakeholders.
