We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for three Healthcare Engineers within our Healthcare team

This role sits within Howorth’s Healthcare Engineering team and involves delivering specialist service, maintenance, verification and compliance testing across live hospital and clinical environments. 
The position supports critical ventilation and containment systems that are essential to patient safety, infection control and clinical operations. Working closely with NHS estates teams and end users, the engineer will ensure equipment is maintained, tested and verified in line with HTM guidance, HSG258 and contractual requirements, while operating to high standards of safety, quality and professionalism at all timess.

The Healthcare Engineer is responsible for the testing, maintenance, and repair of healthcare and pharmaceutical equipment, alongside carrying out examination and testing of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems. This role ensures compliance with relevant industry standards, supporting the safe and efficient operation of critical air and containment systems within controlled environments.

The position requires a hands-on engineer with a strong technical foundation, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail. The engineer will work independently and as part of a wider service team to deliver high- quality engineering support, maintain client satisfaction, and help uphold the technical excellence and reputation of Howorth Air Technology

Key Responsibilities

The role will be responsible for delivering safe, compliant and high-quality engineering services within live healthcare environments, ensuring all works are carried out in line with statutory guidance, client requirements and Howorth procedures.

  • Carry out planned and reactive service, maintenance and fault finding on healthcare ventilation and LEV systems
  • Undertake verification and compliance testing in accordance with HTM guidance, including HTM 03-01
  • Perform thorough examination and testing of LEV systems in line with HSG258, producing clear and accurate reports
  • Ensure all works are completed safely, in line with RAMS, permits and infection control requirements
  • Liaise professionally with NHS estates teams, contractors and end users to support service delivery and site coordination
  • Maintain calibration, care and correct use of test equipment and tools
  • Complete all documentation, records and reports accurately and within required timescales
  • Support service continuity by responding to faults, defects and compliance issues as required

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

The successful candidate will be technically competent, standards-led and comfortable working across a wide range of healthcare ventilation and containment systems, with a strong understanding of compliance requirements.

  • Good understanding of Howorth medical and pharmaceutical ventilation equipment
  • Competent use of relevant calibrated test equipment
  • Experience verifying critical ventilation systems in accordance with HTM 03-01 (Parts A and B)
  • AP Ventilation Qualified
  • Servicing and testing of AHUs, UCV canopies, fume cupboards, cleanroom suites, safety cabinets, humidifiers and multi-movement pendants
  • Entrainment testing, control systems and general fault diagnosis
  • DOP / in-situ HEPA filter testing, particle counting and room classification
  • Strong filter knowledge and awareness of relevant industry standards
  • Electrical skills desirable; IEE BS 7671 (18th Edition) advantageous
  • Understanding of MBAS testing procedures
  • BOHS P601 qualification desirable; LEV experience and knowledge of HSG258 preferred
  • LEV working and experience of LEV is desirable.

Desired Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a healthcare engineer within live clinical environments, carrying out service, maintenance and fault finding on specialist ventilation and air movement equipment while maintaining compliance with healthcare standards and site procedures. They will be comfortable undertaking verification activities in line with HTM guidance and delivering thorough, well-documented testing of LEV systems, with a practical and safety-focused approach to all work and clear communication with NHS estates teams and end users.

  • Service and maintenance of healthcare ventilation systems including AHUs, UCV canopies, safety cabinets and LEV
  • Verification and compliance testing in line with HTM 03-01, with accurate reporting
  • Thorough examination and testing of LEV systems in accordance with HSG258
  • BOHS P601 and/or P602 (or working towards) desirable
  • Confident working independently in live hospital environments
