We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Healthcare LEV Engineer role within our Healthcare Team
As an LEV Engineer at Howorth Air Technology, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the effectiveness, safety, and compliance of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems across a range of client sites. From hospitals to industrial environments, you’ll help maintain the clean air standards that underpin Howorth’s reputation for precision-engineered air technology.
Your primary focus will be on the testing, examination, maintenance, and repair of LEV systems, ensuring they meet COSHH and other regulatory requirements. You’ll apply hands-on engineering expertise to diagnose issues, carry out corrective actions, and optimise system performance. Success in this role means combining technical skill with a meticulous eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You’ll often work independently, supported by a collaborative technical team dedicated to delivering exceptional service standards. This is an opportunity to work with advanced air technology across diverse environments, shaping safer, cleaner spaces for clients and their teams.

The LEV Engineer is responsible for carrying out thorough testing, examination, maintenance, and repair of Local Exhaust Ventilation systems across client sites. The role plays a critical part in supporting compliance with COSHH regulations and ensuring optimal performance of LEV systems in controlled environments.
This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong diagnostic skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality technical services in healthcare and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:
LEV Testing and Compliance
- Conduct routine statutory examinations and performance testing of LEV systems to meet COSHH and HSE guidelines.
- Complete detailed reports and certificates following testing.
- Identify and report non-conformances, recommending corrective actions.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on LEV systems.
- Replace filters, parts, and components as needed.
- Troubleshoot issues and restore system functionality in line with manufacturer specifications.
Customer Service
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients on-site.
- Provide technical advice and support to help clients maintain compliant and efficient LEV systems.
- Respond to customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure all work is documented accurately using company systems.
- Submit service reports and certificates promptly.
- Maintain a clear audit trail to support regulatory compliance.
Collaboration
- Work closely with colleagues in planning, sales, and service teams to coordinate work.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery and technical standards.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- BOHS P601 qualification (minimum). P602 or P604 is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in LEV testing and maintenance (minimum 2 years preferred). Including the service and testing
- MSC Class 1,2,3 and fume cupboards
- Good understanding of BSEN 12469 and BSEN 14175.
- Understanding of HSE HSG258 and COSHH regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital reporting tools.
Desired Experience
- Experience working in healthcare, laboratory, or industrial environments.
- Familiarity with various LEV systems, including fume cupboards, Microbiological Safety Cabinets, Isolators (negative & positive pressure), flexible arm extractors, welding fume extractors, and pharmaceutical containment systems.
- Proven track record of delivering excellent customer service and technical reporting.
- Strong understanding of airflow principles, filtration, and system diagnostics.
Collaboration and Teamwork
- Experience working collaboratively with sales, operations, and technical service teams.
- Ability to contribute to cross-functional initiatives and support company objectives.
