Pre Construction Engineer

We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Pre-Construction Engineer role within our Howorth Specialist Environments team.

Working Location: Head Office | Full-time

Working alongside the Pre Construction Manager and Business Unit Director to support the sales functions (Meeting with clients / Delivering presentations / Tracking and updating forecasting / carrying out on site surveys and pricing up projects to be delivered by the Specialist Environments department.

This role involves regular liaisons with clients, preparing / developing project proposals and creatingrobust delivery plans. This role also supports the PM’s and project delivery teams to write O&M / H&S documentation ready for submission following project completions.

Key Responsibilities

As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out site surveys and feasibility studies and manage the process from start to finish
  • Regularly report to Pre Construction Manager on Pre Sales Project progress, scheduling and forecasting
  • Review the pipeline of RFQs and incoming tender enquiries from both the HAT sales department, tender portals and other channels of enquiry
  • Complete and submit tender proposals
  • Prioritise, schedule and allocate time to technical queries from both clients and project delivery team
  • Assist with the maintenance of reporting systems
  • Regularly review the sales funnel with Pre Construction Manager ensuring sufficient information is available to develop sales proposals
  • Support and be part of lessons learned meetings to understand and report areas for improvement or change
  • Work in conjunction with the Commercial Team in areas such as raising orders and review of procurement schedules
  • Maintain supplier database, collating and curating up to date supplier information
  • Develop better supplier relationships throughout the supply chain to maximise partnering opportunities and cost saving initiatives
  • Support with the development, maintenance and standardisation of all documentation where required
  • Help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the sales to projects processes
  • Keep in regular contact with the clients during front end development works
  • Highlight areas of development and improvement of the tools used by the project team e.g. Review and support with implementation of new processes
  • Support as required with the project management of live projects
  • Attend regular sales and operations meetings as required
  • Review, schedule and prioritise your workloads to ensure targets and timescales are met
  • Develop supplier relationships and manage the sub-contractor satisfaction tracker
  • Assist with delivery and management of reporting processes between Estimating (pre-construction) > Operations
  • Attend handover meetings from Sales to Operations Team on completion of proposals
  • Work closely with Operations leads to ensure smooth operations of department
  • Assist with projects when issues arise and be flexible to cover such as holidays and sickness
  • Support the design functions to ensure the proposals are accurate and technically adequate
  • Any other reasonable activity requested by the Pre Construction Manager and Business Unit Director

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Recommended or desired qualifications you would need to fulfil this role:

  • Education: Relevant qualification in Mechanical Building Services Engineering / HVAC
  • Standards Knowledge: Working knowledge of UK standards, with specific familiarity with Healthcare Technical Memorandums and Building regulations
  • Industry Awareness: Conversant with project delivery methods, building construction sector and technical industries such as Healthcare and Pharmaceutical
  • Health & Safety: Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation related to CDM, including incorporation of risk assessments

Desired Experience

  • Software Skills: Experienced and trained in Microsoft Office systems including Project, SharePoint, Excel and Word
  • Project Experience: Experience of site supervision and general project management
  • Product Knowledge: Understanding of Howorth products and clinical equipment such as operating lights, medical pendants, surgeon control panels, BMS, general refurbishment / light construction
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Formulate innovative ideas to address daily challenges to meet customer expectations
  • Collaborate Effectively: Communicate respectfully and effectively and support the whole departmentto ensuring timely delivery of projects
  • Project Liaison: Work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers, Commercial, Pre Construction Leads and external stakeholders to provide technical and operational solutions
  • Maintain Professionalism: Demonstrate a positive attitude under challenging circumstances and act as a role model for high standards of work and behaviour
  • Plan and Prioritize: Organise and manage personal workloads effectively to meet deadlines and align with department objectives
