Project Engineer

We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Project Engineering role within our Pharma team.

The successful candidates will be supporting our Operations Engineering team to deliver high-quality, world-class pharmaceutical containment equipment for customers all over the world. Collaborating with cross-functional teams including Mechanical, EC&I, PM and Tech Docs, you will be the main engineering contact for your respective projects. You will also be a point of contact for our clients, as well as 3rd party equipment manufacturers, who’s equipment we integrate into ours.

Key Responsibilities

As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:

  • Technically specifying Howorth equipment
  • Technically verifying equipment designs
  • Liaising with clients and ensuring technical alignment with client URS and site specifications
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry
  • Liaising with suppliers and technically agreeing 3rd Party Equipment and Services (i.e seismic calcs, verification services CPT, regulatory compliance)
  • Liaising with design engineers to support and agree design philosophy and details
  • Liaising with Project Management re progress/ client approvals/ ‘state-of-play’/ support commercial aspects of design and design changes/ procurement
  • Be an approver of key technical documentation that is issued both internally and externally
  • Liaising with 3rd party suppliers to ensure engineering queries are raised and design criteria met, and ensuring approval deadlines are met to meet overall project schedule demands
  • Travel to client / supplier sites all over the world conducting or supporting with; meetings, mock-up reviews, FAT’s, SAT’s
  • Predominantly an office based role as you will be a main point of contact for people in head office
  • Support ad hoc tasks and projects as required by Engineering Managers
  • Willing to be a main Howorth representative in client / supplier meetings and have the knowledge to make informed engineering decisions on behalf of the team

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • A proactive new starter
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and a can-do attitude
  • Is adaptable and willing to learn
  • Works collaboratively with others
  • Have ‘commercial awareness’
  • Display a commitment to excellence and accuracy in everyday tasks
  • Qualified in an engineering discipline (HNC or equivalent minimum)
  • Knowledge of project management lifecycle and techniques is advantageous

Desired Experience

  • Experienced engineer with a keen eye for detail
  • Knowledge of both mechanical & EC&I disciplines
  • Willing to create, maintain and be technical sign-off for engineering documentation
  • Must be commercially aware when in the presence of our customers & suppliers
  • Pharma containment engineering background is advantageous
  • Experience of leading people, as well as training and developing others
  • Familiarity with GMP and regulatory compliance requirements
  • An understanding of ATEX & NEC hazardous area standards is advantageous
